Commemorative Tree Planting On July 1/09 Canada Day, the 533 Sabre Squadron St. Albert Air Cadets held a ceremony to plant a tree to commemorate the Canadian Centennial of Flight. The tree planted was an Ohio Buckeye Chestnut and was donated by a local business, Hole’s Greenhouses & Gardens Ltd. The ceremony was organized and conducted by Mr. Claude Carignan who is the President of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee. He introduced the Commanding Officer Capt. Ken Fecteau and the invited guests Mayor Nolan Crouse of the City of St. Albert, Member of Parliament Brent Rathgeber, Members of Legislative Assembly Ken Allred and the Honourable Doug Horner Minister of Advanced Education and Technology. Air Cadets from the Squadron were present and members of the community were also on hand as the event was coordinated with the Canada Day celebrations held in Lions Park located along St. Albert’s Sturgeon river. Attached are pictures of the event. A commemorative plaque will be added once the tree is stable.
